"Moon Child" (2018) was the very first painting in Lisa Oakes' black and white period of creation. An avid reader of fiction, Oakes was inspired to create this imagery while reading "The Neverending Story" and wanting to paint her version of the childlike empress or "Moon Child" from the story. While, initially intended to be an acrylic underpainting to be color-glazed with oils, the effectiveness of the black and white image was so striking that the artist decided not to add color, after all. This piece was created using black and white acrylic paint on 12" x 9" canvas wrapped board. While it was not framed by the artist, the profile (3/4") is slim enough that this dreamy piece could be framed easily.
